2. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:

- Provide clear guidance to staff and learners on safeguarding responsibilities.

3. Scope
This policy applies to all staff, learners, contractors, and visitors involved in Sound Health Training Ltd’s activities. It covers both face-to-face and online training environments, including off-site visits, placements, and any virtual learning platforms utilized by the organization.

6. Responsibilities and Representatives
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Oversees safeguarding practices, provides advice, and manages referrals to external agencies. The DSL is responsible for maintaining safeguarding records securely and ensuring that concerns are acted upon promptly.
- Deputy Safeguarding Lead: Supports the DSL and acts in their absence, ensuring continuity of safeguarding oversight.
- All Staff: Have a duty to report safeguarding concerns, complete mandatory training, and promote a culture of vigilance. They should be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and understand their role in the safeguarding process.
- Board Members and Senior Management: Provide strategic leadership, ensuring safeguarding is embedded in the organization’s policies and practices.
7. Safeguarding Procedures
- Recognizing Signs of Abuse: This includes physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect, exploitation, radicalization, and other forms of harm such as bullying, harassment, and cyber abuse. Staff should be vigilant to changes in behavior, physical signs of harm, and disclosures made by individuals.
- Reporting Concerns: Immediate verbal report to the DSL followed by a written record using the organization’s safeguarding reporting forms. Concerns should be reported even if there is uncertainty about the level of risk.
- Response: The DSL assesses the concern, takes appropriate action, and liaises with external agencies if necessary, such as social services, police, or the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
- Confidentiality: Information is shared on a need-to-know basis, respecting privacy while prioritizing safety. Staff should not promise confidentiality to individuals disclosing abuse.
8. Safer Recruitment
- Implement robust recruitment procedures, including enhanced DBS checks, reference verification, and safeguarding-focused interviews.
- Ensure ongoing staff development, safeguarding supervision, and regular updates on safeguarding legislation and practices.
- Maintain a Single Central Record (SCR) to document all pre-employment checks.
9. Training and Awareness
- All staff receive safeguarding induction training and regular updates relevant to their role.
- Specialist training for the DSL and deputies, refreshed every two years.
- Promote safeguarding awareness among learners through workshops, materials, and discussions integrated into training sessions.
- Conduct regular refresher training sessions to ensure continuous professional development in safeguarding.
10. Online Safety
- Implement measures to safeguard learners in online environments, including secure platforms, privacy settings, and monitoring online interactions.
- Provide guidance on safe internet use, managing online risks, and recognizing signs of online abuse, including grooming, cyberbullying, and exploitation.
- Ensure staff are trained to identify and respond to online safeguarding concerns.
11. Whistleblowing
- Encourage staff to report concerns about unsafe practices, misconduct, or failures in safeguarding without fear of reprisal.
- Provide clear procedures for whistleblowing, ensuring confidentiality and protection for whistleblowers.
- Designate a Whistleblowing Officer to handle such concerns impartially.
12. Safeguarding in Practice
- Promote positive behavior and respectful relationships within training environments.
- Implement clear codes of conduct for staff and learners to prevent inappropriate behavior.
- Conduct risk assessments for activities that may pose safeguarding risks, including off-site visits and practical training sessions.
- Ensure physical environments are safe, secure, and conducive to learning.
13. Supporting Individuals
- Provide appropriate support to individuals who disclose abuse, including referrals to counseling services, support networks, and external safeguarding agencies.
- Ensure staff understand how to respond sensitively to disclosures, maintaining a calm and supportive demeanor.
- Foster a culture where learners feel confident to speak up about concerns without fear of judgment or retaliation.
14. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes in legislation, guidance, best practices, or following any significant safeguarding incidents. The review process will involve consultation with staff, learners, and safeguarding experts to ensure the policy remains effective and relevant.
