50 1/2 Day Complex Course
This course provides in-depth knowledge and practical skills required for the care and management of patients with a tracheostomy. Healthcare professionals will learn to deliver safe and effective care, ensuring patient safety and comfort in various healthcare settings.
Course Objectives
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system relevant to tracheostomy care.
- Learn the indications, types, and management of tracheostomy tubes.
- Master techniques for cleaning and maintaining a tracheostomy tube.
- Recognise potential complications and how to prevent or manage them.
- Gain skills in emergency tracheostomy care, including tube dislodgement and blockage management.
- Understand the psychological and social impact of tracheostomy on patients and their families.
- Learn communication strategies with patients who have a tracheostomy.

This course is designed for nurses, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with tracheostomies.

Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Medications Handling and Management Certificate, valid for 2 years.
